Humility

What does it mean to humble yourselve? According to scripture; Jesus tells us and the apostles to humble ourselves and walk in meekness. How do we walk in humility and allow the spirit of God to take over in the area of "Self".

Humility- A modest or low view of ones own self importance.

Philippians 2:1-11

Therefore if there is any a]">[a]consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it b]">[b]robbery to be equal with God, but c]">[c]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The life and salvation of humanity was more important to God than him having to experience the pain and suffering of a mere mortal life on Earth. Humility is about removing self because with self( wants, desires) comes pride. Gods wants to kill every form of pride in us so that he may be fully exalted in us the same way Christ Jesus allowed Gods full glory to be displayed in his earthly life.

John 17: 20-26

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who j]">[j]will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Jesus prays for belivers and speaks of Gods glory in and upon him, that this also may be the children of Gods portion. Jesus made it abundantly known that without the father he can do nothing. This is the example he was displaying to us, that we need the father to accomplish the will of the Lord in our lives.

Proverbs 22:4
"Humility is the fear of the lord it wages are riches and honor and life".

Fear of the lord is to have s reverence for God an upmost honor, esteeming the word. Jesus recognized the nessecity to have  fear of the lord which caused him to be the most humble. The word was above his very existence in the earthly body. His focus was the bigger picture.

Proverbs 15:33
"Wisdoms instruction is to fear the lord and humility comes before honor".

Jesus is the picture of wisdom for thr beliver. We are to walk in his ways. The fear of the lord brings humility. What does this look like? To put others before your self being selfless. Not self seeking and self serving. When the fear of the lord becomes rooted in us we stop caring about self and aim to please our father in every capacity. Not forgetting that our very existance is for his glory and his enjoyment.

1 Peter 5:5

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for

“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.

We are to clothe ourselves in humility the same way Jesus did. The Love Christ had for us and the father revealed why he came and died for us. It was simply his love and his willingness to humble hismeslf even when he stand at a position of ultimate authority and power.

Ephesians 4:2
Bear with one another in love.

Proverbs 29:23

A man’s pride will bring him low,
But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

Matthew 11:29
Jesus tells us to be lowly and learn from him.

John 3:30
He must increase but I must decrease.

Because of his love for God, he had a fear of the word which by wisdom brought christ to humility displayed for us today. Jesus was the only perfect example of a living sacrife unto the Lord. His life was an alter and a sweet smeling aroma unto God. He was able daily, to lay down himself for all of humanity knowing that he would save the whole world.

Amen!
