How Do We Walk in the Spirit?

The first question I want to ask is, who is the spirit of God? Once I understand the spirit and who he is; then I can learn to walk like he walks. What is the nature of the spirit of God, where does it come from? These are critical questions for me to better understand how to walk in the spirit, and truly gain an understanding for God. Walking in his spirit is what brings forth more wisdom and knowledge of the supernatural things. This is where healing can manifest deliverance, prophetic tongues and every gift God has freely given unto his servants. The spirit of God has always been and always was from the beginning of time when the earth was formed.

Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

Zechariah 4:6 “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, this is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”  It is by the spirit of God that all living being continue to live, why all life breaths, it is not by the strength or might of man but by the spirit of God. The life that we all have is only by his spirit, not by any means of our own will. The order of humanity is by the spirit of God, when Jesus went to the father and sat at the right hand of God, this is when the spirit came to teach us.  John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you”. To guide us to correct us to give us access to the things of the spirit realms in the 3rd and 4th dimensions of time. Jesus gave us the gift of the spirit to access the kingdom of God thorough his spirit. John 15:26 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.”

It is by the spirit that we are able to enter into the spirit when we pray, he is the one that leads us into the secret place where the mysteries of God are explained to his servants, he is the one that quickens us to do his great will. Everything is by the spirit of God. John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

The holy spirit is our groom. He teaches us how to read his word and understand it. He shows us the way of life and how to become like Jesus here on the earth. He corrects us, and reflects our character and changes it to be like Jesus. He transforms who we are so we can have total access to all the Jesus has given us.  John 6:63-64 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.”

Now that we know who the spirit is, how to we know we are walking in it? Galatians 5: 16-26 reads “ I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,  envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”

The writer of Galatians draws a distinct difference in walking in the spirit and in the flesh. Each bear fruit good or bad. Does your life represent what Paul describes as walking in the spirit? Granted we can’t just wake up and walk in the spirit without the help of the spirit. We need his help to manifest these attribute and types of characteristics. This comes by the renewing of your mind on the word of God.  As you trust Holy Spirit to assist you in your walk with Him, he will help you walk in the spirit even when its hard. So, continue to look to Jesus and allow him to have his work in you perfecting and rearranging us to his own image.

Amen!
